"Houston,
we have a problem!" Every now and then we
have a leak.
This one is in the main pipe between the
Treatment Plant and the Town!
In the center of this image you
can see a spray shooting up
and to the left.
|
 |
Ah yes, I think this might be it!! |

|
While we are at it we may as well
do something about this coupling!
You can see the spray from the leak
in this image also.
|
 |
After switching the town over to our
back-up tank we get to work. Here, the four inch steel
main is being
cut in half.
Unfortunately the main valve
at the storage tank does not close
completely tight and so it is wet work!
|
 |
The pipe is cut but
the water continues.
|

|
We install a new four inch valve
and
then shut off the flow.
Much better!
|

|
Now we can get close to the problem
without getting wet!
The leak was where the pipe was
cracked going into the valve and the
rusted out coupling is seen
just beyond.
|

|
The valve, coupling, and the pipe
between them has been cut out
and a new section of pipe installed
using a cast iron angle joint
and Mega-lugs.
The pipe was reconnected to the new
four inch valve and the system turned
back on.
Life is good!
